The real internal auditor

Internal auditing is a career that many people have fallen into by an idiotic (or fortuitous - depending on your point of view) decision at some point in their working life.  No career advisor ever said to me "study hard and do your best and one day you can be - an internal auditor". What even is that as a career?  It sounds like a medical examination rather than a job.  At least the guys in risk management get to sound edgy with "risk" in their title.  No one understands what we do and generally no one cares.  Derided, ignored and sidelined - ours is a lonely career. So why do I love it? Well that's what I am looking to explore on this blog.  There are hundreds of us out there.
